I hate driving at night. Icanapos;t see the road signs clearly, I canapos;t see other cars, lights look weird in my glasses, everything is confusing, itapos;s hard to stay on the road, thereapos;s cops everywhere... Driving at night sucks.
Billy called me today and asked if I could take Jack home later in the day. I said "Yeah, sure, so long as itapos;s not night." He said "okay, so you can do it?" I said "So long as itapos;s not night. I donapos;t like driving at night."
Come 10PM, he suddenly wants me to take him home. Itapos;s a half-hour drive each way. In the dark. In an area that Iapos;ve never been in before. Along highways and toll roads that Iapos;ve never driven on. At night. Well, Icanapos;t say no, because he would have no where to stay. So, we start driving. First of all, never try to get directions from two gay men. They donapos;t know how to shut up and tell you where to turn. I missed a left turn by Walmart, so I got in the next turning lane to go down the street it led onto and turn around. However, this turning lane led nowhere. Seriously. There was no road. There was a turning lane and a left-hand turn signal, but no road to turn onto. "Okay, so itapos;s an area for U-turns." No. There was a "NOU-TURN" sign. So here I am, sitting in a turning lane with nowhere to turn. The light to go straight is still green, so I look over my shoulder, see that thereapos;s no one coming, and start to pull out. However, I suddenly notice that in the time it took me to look over my shoulder, the light turned red. I slam on my brakes in the middle of the road, toss it into reverse, and end up sitting halfway in the left-turn lane, halfway in the straight lane. God fucking damnit. People mustapos;ve thought I was drunk.
So eventually we get where we need to be, about 30 minutes later. I was fucking stressed the whole time. Trying to obey speed limits at night SUCK, because thereapos;s no one infront of you to base your speed on, so I have to constantly fucking look at my dashboard and back onto the road so that I can make sure Iapos;m not speeding, because God help you if you speed in this area. Cops are *everywhere*. So I drop Jack off and Billy is still in the car. He was directing me on how to get back onto the highway, and he said "Okay, now make a left here." It was a green light, and the person on the other side of the street was stopped. I thought "Okay, he obviously has a red light and this light is green so that people can turn left." Well apparently I was WRONG, because as soon as I started turning left, this asshole who has been sitting at his green light for ~10 seconds decides to slam on the gas, and then stop suddenly a foot from me while Iapos;m already in the middle of the road and going onto the onramp, and yell out of his window. What the fuck, buddy. I was in the road. You were stopped. The turning light was green. You donapos;t slame on your gas when thereapos;s a car directly infront of you. I also had issues with stop signs. Usually I blatantly ignore the "4-way" things under stop signs, as theyapos;re too small for me to see. Instead, I just look to see if the other cars have a stop sign. But at night, itapos;s fucking pitch black and I couldnapos;t see shit, so stop signs were horrible.
By the time I got back toGreensburg, all I wanted to do was curl up in bed and sleep. I fucking hate driving at night, ESPECIALLY in places that Iapos;m unfamiliar with. I know all of the streets in Greensburg. I know which ones are one-ways and where all of the stop signs are and which lanes are turning lanes. Iapos;ve lived here for 15 years. Driving here is *easy*. Driving in a place that Iapos;m completely unfamiliar with where the arrows in the lanes which indicate which lane is a turning and which one is straight is worn out so you canapos;t see shit is plain ANNOYING.
tl;dr driving sucks.
